Are uPVC windows dangerous?

Our Expert Answer...

This is a very interesting question. We assume that you are referring to toxicity, however, we shall answer that subject as well as the health and safety of our windows in order to fully cover the question.

uPVC is not a toxic material unless it is burned. This is why we operate a fanatical recycling policy and last year recycled over 16,000 tons of materials. In order to be approved for use both inside and out of the home uPVC made its way through a stringent approval procedure several decades ago and the standards of the material used is today reflected in the British Standard accreditations that we have in place as part of our manufacturing obligations.

Any device for use in a UK home must have demonstrable health and safety considerations and these are also reflected in our many “Kitemarks” from the British Standards Agency.

We are also a FENSA registered company in order to ensure that the best possible fitting practices are adhered to – again, this is a major health and safety consideration.

Our double glazing products are also more environmentally-friendly:

  • Lead-Free profile made from Calcium organic formulation.
  • Low V.O.C. primer (water-based) used during the lamination process (Foiling).
  • Energy Saving features prevent heat loss, reducing CO2 emissions and Carbon Footprint.
  • Meets ‘Green’ accreditations BRE “A” Class status (Building Research Establishment).
