uPVC in windows

What is uPVC

uPVC (it stands for Un-Plasticised Polyvinyl Chloride) may sound very technical but it’s really just a very practical chemical compound. It’s strong, safe, versatile and durable, making it an excellent building material. Not only this but uPVC is a poor conductor of heat and sound so it's a great choice for windows. The improvements made in uPVC window and door technologies over the last 20 years have ensured its continuing popularity.

Why do we use it in windows?

We use uPVC for a few simple reasons:

  • It’s extremely strong and durable
  • It’s much more cost effective than timber or aluminium
  • It’s very versatile so can offer a huge range of styles, colours and shapes
  • It’s a very energy efficient material for window frames

Why are Safestyle's windows a safe choice

When looking at uPVC windows it’s a must to make sure the uPVC windows use a virgin polymer such as ours to protect against discolouration. Ours are guaranteed against yellowing but cheaper uPVC is still used elsewhere in the industry. It's also a good idea to make sure you know the standards your windows are manufactured to and the stringent testing procedures that are in place. We not only tell our customers about all our fantastic work that goes into manufacturing their windows and doors in our our factory but we can actually show them to with a virtual tour of our 18 acre site here.

uPVC vs. Timber and Aluminium

Choosing between uPVC, timber and aluminium can feel like a difficult decision to make. There are a lot of technicalities involved, after all. Whilst uPVC might not sound quite as sophisticated as its counterparts, it is worthwhile noting the following practical advantages which it offers:

  • It won’t rot, swell or need repainting like wood
  • It can be more thermally efficient than timber and even more so than aluminium (aluminium frames themselves are good heat conductors which is wasteful of energy)
  • It is much more affordable, both timber and aluminium command a much higher price tag
  • It is much more weather resilient. Both timber and aluminium suffer stress from the extremes of the British climate

How do Safestyle compare cost-wise in the market?

We pride ourselves on offering the best prices in the market but without sacrificing quality. To back this we have a price promise to make sure that you won’t find a better price for a like-for-like uPVC window anywhere.

It’s also worth remembering that our windows come with an insurance backed 10 year guarantee, covering your new windows no matter what happens.
